Fabric firewall barriers tests

The fabric firewall barriers are innovative systems in the fire protection sector; therefore standards have still not been established. Given their application, they are tested under the UNE EN 1634-1 European regulation (Fire doors). In addition, they also require justification on the maximum dimensions, durability and insulation features by means of different tests and need to comply with the standards in each country.

Step 1. Fabric smoke permeability
1000 x 1000mm samples undergo a test, in which the fabric permeability to smoke is inspected. Our fabric has a smoke leakage rate of 0.00 m3/h at a pressure of 25 Pa.
Step 2. Euroclass test of the fabric UNE EN 13501-1:2007 + A1:2010
1000 x 1000mm samples undergo tests which verify the rating with regard to fire behaviour, flammability, smoke production, and particle emissions. Our fabric is rated at A2s1 d0.
Step 3. Fire resistance test UNE EN 1634-1
3000 x 3000h samples undergo tests in which the integrity, thermal insulation and radiation emissions are checked, in accordance with the temperature curve that is regulated under EN 1363-1 (1000 ºC). This test obtains the final rating of the system:
  • E rating: integrity of the dimensions during a determined amount of time.
  • EI rating: integrity and thermal insulation during a determined amount of time. The sample cannot exceed an average temperature of 140ºC and a maximum of 180ºC on the side that is not exposed to the fire.
  • EW rating: integrity and low radiation is inspected during a determined amount of time; under no circumstances can it exceed 15 Kw/m2 at one metre away.
Step 4. Impact test UNE-EN 949:1999
3000x 3000mm samples undergo tests. The regulation establishes a method to determine the damages that are caused by the impact of soft and heavy bodies on the barrier that is assembled with the same components in accordance with the implemented criteria. Our system has undergone tests with impacts of a body of +/- 0.6 Kg and an applied energy of 180 (J)
Step 5. Tests on dimensional extrapolation EN 15269-11
  • Extrapolation of the system's maximum height: a sample of 1500 x 1500mm in a vertical position (usual position) with an extra weight that simulates the maximum condition of the system's height. Our system ensures a maximum height of 8 metres.
  • Extrapolation of the maximum width of the system: the sample of 1500 x 1500mm in a horizontal position with an extra weight that simulates maximum forces that could cause the system dimensions to increase due to sail effects, expansions, etc. Our systems ensure a maximum width of 12 metres.
Step 6. Durability tests and suitability report of the system for its use
Several samples undergo tests to indicate their durability in standard dimensions and the system's maximum dimensions. A lab technician is in charge of verifying the system's condition of use and drafting a suitability report which includes all the requirements and tests that are conducted.
